Well, it was a long night.
We talked about binky, we prayed she could be a big girl and sleep without binky, we cuddled, and then after quite a few tears little Cutie fell asleep.
{{Big sigh of relief}}
Until...
12:45 am when the crying started again. This time with more fervor. And it went on, and on, and on. We talked again, we prayed again, we cuddled again... Nothing could soothe the pain.
Until...
at 1:45 I suggested we get up and start looking for binky again. We looked through the bath toys, through the laundry, and under the couch.
What she doesn't know is that I had an emergency binky all along, which I was hiding in the kitchen. I planted it under the couch as we were looking there and pretended I found it.
I know it's terrible. But I couldn't just produce another binky after all the tears that had been shed. It would have been a betrayal.
She was so relieved. So content.
And she fell right to sleep.
So, the binky saga continues...

Oh, sister - I feel your pain. We are a "sassy" family too and I dread the day when they will have to be taken away.
Hope it's easier tonight!
Oh yeah...Naomi is hopelessly attached to the binky. BINKY she yells all the time. I think we have 20; no exaggeration.
What do our grandmothers say? This too will pass! =)
Just saw this post for the first time and it made me so sad. I am not sure how old your child is but I can assure you that she/he wont go to college with the binky. It Is so hard for them we want them to grow up and then one day they do and it is in a flash. In any case many years ago I had the (binky needs to go time) and we actually left it for santa to perhaps give to a "baby" because now they are so grown up. This worked like a charm for me and maybe it will for you. Good Luck but in any case remember in a blink they are all grown up and you will long for the binky days
:-)
We are counting the days until the "paci fairy" visits and takes the pacis to babies who need them. She leaves a big boy (or girl) present behind! My struggle is, TJ associates his blanket with his paci. I can't bear to make him give them both up!! At least the blanket doesn't require him to get braces when he's older...
Weakling! Sleep is just so precious. I feel your pain! xoxo
Well, be happy that if need be you CAN get rid of the binky. We CANNOT get rid of Katrina's two fingers. She still sucks on those to fingers everynight (and when watching videos, and when tired....) and she is 5!!! I have tried gum (she goes through 10 pieces a day just to keep those fingers out of her mouth), nailpolish, bandaids, jalepeno peppers rubbed on the fingers. She is still totally attached. It is starting to look pretty ridiculous now that she's five!!!!
Hi Chrissie,
Steve's sister here. Rhys was very attached to his "paci". It may not meet safety guidelines, but I cut the tip off and played dumb and told him it was the only one we had. He put it in his mouth and fell asleep. Somehow the paci got mysteriously shorter and shorter everyday. It was amazing how he would hold it in his mouth as it got so short! But, by the end of the week, it was too short to hold in his mouth. He agreed to hold it in his hand and fell asleep. After that, he just sort of lost interest in it. Good luck!
I too have a binky baby, but mine just turned 2, and has a brand new sister who will most likely be a binky baby as well... how do you deny one while the other one still has it? And my family (mine and husbands) kept trying to take Mitchell's binky away before the baby came... I thought he would need his "lovey" to get through all the changes. My brother, my only ally, always says, he won't go to college with it. With the new baby sleep is too precious. Also, with all the changes in the cuties lives, if they have the binky for a little longer it won't hurt anything. You just need to do what is right for your family, and not worry about what others might think or say. :)
