I usually allow the girls to watch a TV show or part of a movie in the evening as we are winding down for bedtime.
We have some cute Leap Frog videos, and we've DVRed some "Signing Time" and "Charlie and Lola" and "Thomas the Tank Engine" shows from TV. They are turning four this month, and these shows are perfect for their age.
But so many "children's" movies have inappropriate humor {Barnyard}, frightening characters and scenes {pretty much every Disney movie}, are low-budget {Thumbelina} or are just plain lame {Thomas and the Magic Railroad}.
A few weeks ago, I picked up a movie at Ross for $6.99. It was Milo and Otis, made in 1986. I remember thinking it was cute when I saw it as a young girl, and I was delighted this evening, when I put it on for the girls. This movie is funny, clever, and heart-warming. It really held the girls' attention, too.
I wish I could find more movies for them like this one-intelligent, slow-paced, interesting and just right for their age. Any recommendations?

Rogers and Hamerstein's Cinderella with Ginger Rodgers was my FAVORITE movie while growning up! Although it has some cheesy parts it is amazing! Peter pan with mary martin is also wonderful! both are live stage performances and are amazing!
Oh I thought of another one The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (25th Anniversary Edition) (1977)This is great! It is the first set of winnie the pooh movies and sticks to the book! It is great! You can find all of these movies on amazon!
I so love this movie. Hope does too but Naomi doesn't get it yet. I especially love the narration by (I think) Dudley Moore.
Charlotte's Web was always one of my favorites. And I give a double vote for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh....although the Heffalumps and Woozles dream can seem like a high fever type hallucination when you're sick, a little on the "out there" side, but everything else is very mild and absolutely adorable!
Homeward Bound is cute. The old TV movies from the Wonderful World of Disney have some good ones if you find them.
anything winnie the pooh is really sweet, like heffalump. we also love the leap frog movies. little einsteins is fun and educational. gracie also likes mary poppins, but loses interest at the end (so do i!).
Cami has always loved Mary Poppins!
Jordi would rather play dollys than watch anything longer than 30 min! But she loves JoJos circus... and lil einsteins is cute too and great classical music.. educational too... london loves that one..
