Forgiveness

We are trying to teach the girls the importance of forgiving others. When one apologizes, the other says, "I forgive you."
We want them to understand that forgiveness is the heart of the Gospel. Jesus knows our wrongs and he removes them, as far as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12 Beautiful.
Sometimes, it seems the forgivess is even more difficult than the apology.

This morning I walked out of the kitchen to see Cutie up to her wrists in her milky, drippy cereal.

Me: Umm, Honey, what are you doing?

Cutie: I..I...I...

Me: Ok, {wiping up milk} don't touch anything, go wash your hands.

Cutie: I'm sorry, Mommy.

Me: Ok, go wash your hands.

{10 minutes goes by. Cutie has washed her hands, is playing quietly in her room, and then she emerges.}

Cutie: Um, Momma, I didn't hear you say you forgive me.

Me: {Heart melted.} Oh, Sweet Girl, I forgive you. I love you. {Hug, hug, kiss, kiss} I'm so sorry I forgot to tell you I forgive you.

So precious. They seem to really need our forgiveness, don't they. Mine kids do and I know Hope is always upset until she feels like I have forgiven her. =)

Lessons for little ones are good for us too. Forgiveness is difficult--especially when you are still angry. I am still learning how much God has forgiven me.
